Acting Information Page
Involvement in Acting classes offers students a fun way to better their communication skills, learn respect for themselves and for others in a teamwork setting, gain confidence and better self-expression, be inspired to read and learn proper techniques for performing on stage. Students will gain respect for the art of acting and who knows…..maybe we will be watching your little one on the big screen someday!
Grades 2-4: 45 Min.: Has the question “Who was the real Mother Goose?” ever crossed your mind? Probably not, but this class will bring to life the tales of Mother Goose in a truly exciting, absurd, and never-before-seen way. Not only that, but this class also introduces the young actor to the world of theatre using fun and innovative theatre games. The class will stretch your child’s creativity and imagination as they learn the fundamentals of acting and grow more comfortable with who they are on- and off-stage. They’ll learn different acting techniques, perform fairy tales in pantomime, stage scenes, jump into improvisational acting, and do many other things—and have lots of fun in the process!
Grades 5-7: - 60 Min.: The world of theatre is exciting, challenging, and ever-changing. Whether students are “seasoned” performers or are new to acting, they’re all welcome to take this class and experience what we have to offer. Students will have the opportunity to learn the basics of acting, the art of pantomime, the thrills of improvisational acting, and the importance of creating a cohesive team, using high-energy activities. Along with all of the above, students will rehearse and perform monologues, duet scenes, and group scenes. The class will also feature two performances. This course is for anyone who is interested in performing, being challenged, having fun, trying new things or who just wants to take an awesome class.
Grades 8-12: (No experience required, ) - 60 Min.: If you’re in middle school or high school and looking for something new and amazing to try...or you’ve taken this class before...this class definitely qualifies. Acting is a great way to learn about theatre, performance, and maybe even yourself. We'll examine all parts of the world of theatre, including building an acting troupe, the actor’s toolbox, creating believable characters, improvisation skills, auditioning techniques, the ins and outs of the play-staging process, and many other topics. Projects will include partner and group scenes that are fun yet challenging enough to develop your skills, commercials for products that should never exist, and two performances: the first ever “Actors' Night” and the end-of-year show. If you’re looking to practice self-expression and build your confidence in a safe and supportive environment, this is the class for you.
*New classes for 2011/2012
Actors on Film: 60 min: Did you dream as a youth of being in meaningful films and commercials that would change the world? If so, "Actors on Film" is probably not for you.
But if you'd like to learn all about acting in front of the camera while making commercials, infomercials, scenes with no point other than the fact that they're fun to do and watch, a short film or two, and maybe a telenovela...then this is the class for you. Some scripts will be written for you, but at some point, you and your castmates will be the creators of what is filmed. The standout footage will appear on the Forte Website and will run during the Actor’s Showcase in February. Lights, Camera, Action!
(Note: The phase “Lights, Camera, Action!” will never actually be uttered in the class. I was looking for a cliché way of ending a write up for a film class and . .. I was successful.)
*Students must have had a previous acting class.
Musical Theater Class: 60 min: This new class is now being offered based on many requests from students. Elements of Acting, Singing & Dancing will be combined to create a true musical theatre experience. Students should have previous musical theatre experience or previous training in at least one of the class elements (Acting, Singing or Dance). The classes may be combined depending on enrollment. If that happens, times will be adjusted.
