NEW THIS SEASON! THE ACTOR'S LAB
Introducing The Actor’s LabA Process-Driven Training & Creation ProgramSomething new is coming to our acting department!
We’re excited to introduce The Actor’s Lab—A new approach to actor training designed to give students more opportunities to train, experiment, create, and perform!
At the heart of The Actor’s Lab is live acting and onstage performance! This will serve as our foundation. A place where actors develop the skills that support everything else they do. Through scene study, character development, physicality, voice and breath, text analysis, emotional connection, ensemble work, and performance, students build a strong and versatile acting foundation.
But this is a lab, which means we don’t stop there! Throughout the year, students will have opportunities to take those foundational acting skills in exciting new directions, including:
Media-Based Performance: Camera & Voice
Students explore how acting changes when the camera gets closer or when the microphone becomes the audience. From on-camera performance and audition technique to voiceover and microphone work, actors learn to adapt their skills to different media.
Improvisation: Think. Play. Connect.
Improv encourages students to think quickly, listen actively, collaborate, take creative risks, and trust their instincts. It’s a chance to play, discover, and become more confident and spontaneous performers.
Writing & Original Works (For Our Older Students)
Older actors will have opportunities to move beyond interpreting someone else’s words and begin creating their own. Students may develop original monologues, scenes, and short works while discovering their individual voices as both performers and creators.
Create a Character (For Our Younger Students)
Our younger actors will explore character creation from the ground up! They’ll experiment with unique voices, body language, personalities, goals, and storylines—and then bring those characters together to create and perform short scenes of their own.
And, of course, we want our work to lead somewhere.
Throughout the year, students will have opportunities to share what they’ve developed through culminating performances that bring together live acting, media-based work, and original creation.
The Actor’s Lab is about more than preparing for one show or learning one script. It’s about developing the whole actor, equipping students with the tools, confidence, creativity, and freedom to explore the kind of performer they can become.
